October 16, 2018 Prayer
2 Samuel 22:29
For You are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.

Father, it would be very easy for me to talk about and point fingers at others who are not seeing what You want them to see. Forgive me for how often I think that Lord, especially during the elections. And so I trust You to lighten my darkness, just as I trust You to lighten the darkness of those that I would rather point my fingers at.

October 17, 2018 Prayers
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Father, I trust Your word to be the lamp to my feet and light to my path, rather than political ideologies.

Proverbs 4:19
The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.

Lord, I ask You to make clear to me during this election season those that are stumbling because they are in deep darkness. And then give me the will and the grace to vote accordingly.

October 18, 2018 Prayers
Isaiah 50:10b
. . .Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.

Father, see fit to bring others to know Your Son as their personal Savior through these elections.

Micah 7:9
I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause and executes judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light; I shall look upon His vindication.

Father, I trust You to lead me clearly. Forgive me for the times You have tried to lead me and I have chosen my own direction

October 19, 2018 Prayer
Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Father, I admit that if I let my light and my works relative to this year’s elections be seen, my friends and family may not give glory to You but rather be very grumpy at me. Lord, I acknowledge this before You and trust You, submitting myself to You.

October 20, 2018 Prayers
John 1:4
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Oh Father, I am so glad that Your Son is the One who is both life and Light.

John 1:5
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Father, what a great promise that no matter what goes on, the darkness will not overcome Your Son’s light.

October 21, 2018 Prayer
John 3:19-21
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Father, so many people in our government prefer the darkness rather than the light. I trust You, in fact I expect You, to give me discernment to understand who is placing their confidence in the darkness and who is placing their confidence in the light. Cause me Lord to vote for those that are putting their trust in the Light.

October 22, 2018 Prayers
John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Lord, I thank You that Your Son truly is the light. I do not want to walk in
darkness so I trust You to show me clearly when my political views contradict Your will.

John 9:5
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Father, I am so glad that Your Son is in the world! This election especially, I desire to be led by Him.

October 23, 2018 Prayers
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Father, I thank You for this very, very clear distinction between the evil one and Your Son.

John 12:46
I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in Me may not remain in darkness.

Lord, I do not expect the unsaved to act any other way than they are, namely like unsaved people. But I thank You that as a believer You have given me Your light. Oh Lord, that I would live by Your light especially when it contradicts the ideas of people around me.

October 24, 2018 Prayers
Romans 13:12
The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Father, when we focus on politics, to the exclusion of Your word, we find ourselves needing to cast off the works of darkness. Please give me the will to do that, putting my trust in You.

1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

Father, I admit that this is a very difficult verse to pray because it requires me to not look at someone that I disagree with and judge them. Through the Apostle Paul You have made this point crystal clear when he wrote in Ephesians 6:12 that my struggle IS NOT with flesh and blood (even though it sure looks like it to me). I trust You Lord, to be the one who judges the heart. Forgive me for doing so all the time.

October 25, 2018 Prayers
2 Corinthians 4:2
But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

Father, before I can renounce disgraceful and underhanded ways I have to be wise enough to see them as such. Forgive me Lord for not seeing them in the past and give me the grace to vote appropriately in the future based on what is truth, Your truth.

2 Corinthians 4:4
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Father, I know that there are many, many unsaved people in our government on both sides of the political aisle. The evil one has blinded their minds and so I ask You two requests, one is that they would see the light of the gospel, and secondly, that I would not be deceived by them.

October 26, 2018 Prayers
Ephesians 5:6
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Father, please do not let me be deceived by empty words. I trust You and need You to show me empty words and promises that I am focused upon.

Ephesians 5:8
For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light

Thank You Lord that I am no longer walking in darkness but that I am walking in light. I pray that people will see that I am walking as one of Your children of light, rather than another person walking in darkness because of my erroneous views on politics.

October 27, 2018 Prayers
Ephesians 5:9
(for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),

Lord, as usual, it’s very easy for me to point my fingers and disregard people because I don’t like their fruit. But Father, as I pray for the upcoming elections, I ask You to cause my fruit to be evident as being good and right and true.

Ephesians 5:11
Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

Father, would you expose to me those areas of my life where I may have become unfruitful, because of my errant attitudes and views on politics?

October 28, 2018 Prayers
Colossians 4:6
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Father, forgive me because there have been so many times that I have talked politics, and instead of my speech being gracious seasoned with salt it has been salt season with graciousness. Lord, cause me to be so much more gracious than I am salty.

1 Thessalonians 5:21
But test everything; hold fast what is good.

Father, remind me when I have not tested something. I submit to You that I will hold fast to that which is good even if it is contrary to my normal thinking.

October 29, 2018 Prayers
1 Timothy 3:15
If I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.

“. . . how one ought to behave in the household of God. . .” Oh Lord, my Lord, we have lost our way in the church, and our divided church testifies to that. Forgive us Lord.

1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,

Father, while the context of this is deceitful teachings in the church, I freely admit that I see this in our political discussions also. Father, would You forgive us, for allowing ourselves to depart from Your Spirit. And cause me Lord to no longer be guilty in this area. Cause me to no longer point my fingers at my Brothers and Sisters in the faith.

October 30, 2018 Prayer
1 Timothy 6:3-5
If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

Father, I acknowledge that the context of this is the truth of Your word. But Lord, I see this happening in the way we as Christians dialogue with one another over our differences and our politics. Please forgive us Lord.

October 31, 2018 Prayers
2 Timothy 3:13
While evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

Father, forgive me for the times when I have deceived myself into thinking that life will get better, and better, and better if the right people are in governmental office.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

Clearly Lord, we are here, not enduring sound teaching, or sound leading. We prefer to hear what are itching ears want to hear. Lord, guard me from pointing my finger at everybody else and cause me to acknowledge those places where my own passions lead me to wander off into myths from the truth.

November 1, 2018 Prayer
Hebrews 3:12-13
Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Father, I can think of many people that I would love to point my fingers at and tell them that they are falling away from You. But Lord, the focus of my praying right now is that I would not be hardened and deceived by my sin.

November 2, 2018 Prayer
Hebrews 4:12-13
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Father, I acknowledge that I will one day give an account to You. I trust You to show me clearly in Your word the direction for my life, even as it relates to how I vote.

November 3, 2018 Prayer
Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured from sinners such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Father, I confess that those witnesses that are around me, so often influence me to move contrary to Your word. Allow me, just like Your Son, to endure hostility if the way I vote is upsetting to others.

November 4, 2018 Prayers
2 Peter 2:3
And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Truly Lord, this is as true today is it was 2000 years ago when Peter penned it. I simply ask Father, that You give me the insight to see those who are trying to exploit me and then I trust You for the grace to vote accordingly.

1 John 1:6-7
If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Father, my desire is to not be a liar because I am walking in the darkness, and not practicing the truth. You are the light Lord, and I know that any lack of brotherly fellowship demonstrates that I am not following You, the light, but rather the darkness.

November 5, 2018 Prayers
1 John 2:11
But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Father, I confess that this may be true for a lot more Christians during this election cycle then we realize. And so, instead of pointing my fingers at everyone else, I pray that it will not be so of me.

1 John 4:8
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Father, it is so easy for me to point my fingers at all of those people that I see failing in this regard. Lord, I ask You to cause me to be a person who is viewed as one who loves, because I know You.

November 6, 2018 Prayer
Jude 3e
. . .contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

Father, the context of this verse is contending for the truth of your word. But Lord, I confess that during the elections there may be times when I need to contend with the deception that I play over, and over in my own mind, because I want to vote MY WAY, instead of Yours.
