Prayer Tents During the GA NDP

Do you remember the first time you saw someone who was using a prayer tent?

I do. A number of years ago I was meeting a pastor for lunch and he had me meet him at a local pharmacy.

“Why not his office?” I thought.

When I got there I knew why. He had a small, 10′ x 10′ tent set up that told people to stop to get prayed for.

And he was doing a thriving business!

He had a lunch box for each of us and we sat there eating and praying for others.

This year, as best I can tell, the Georgia National Day of Prayer had 3 prayer tents set up in 3 cities. If there were more, let me know.

  • Brooklet, First Baptist Church
  • Columbus, Britt David Baptist Church
  • Conyers, Awaken His Church Ministry

Below I will share with you each event. Hint: To see photos of their events, click on their town and name, which is the link

Brooklet, First Baptist Church

Pastor Bob Crosby and his church have never been shy about doing the National Day of Prayer, and sharing the gospel. They have done city-center events, church events, etc., but this year they chose to do something a little creative. They got a tent, went to a busy highway near town and set up shop. For 4 hours people stopped and they had a great time, sharing the gospel and praying for people. Bob said, “Mark, we’re not going to miss an opportunity to share the gospel.”
His Big Take-Away: Don’t do this on such a busy street, it was a bit too noisy.
Thanks Bob for your leadership.

Columbus, Britt David Baptist Church

Pastor Tim Jones’ church is near a large park. In fact, he and his congregation periodically take their Sunday evening service to the park and then engage people while they are there. People show up for an evening at the park, and, if they want to, get to participate in a church service.
Tim says, “And they enjoy themselves!”
This year for the National Day of Prayer, they turned their traveling tent into a place for people to come and get prayed for, AND THEY DID!
Great job Tim!

Conyers, Awaken His Church Ministry

Of all three NDP tent ministry events, this one grips my heart the most (sorry, Bob & Tim). Awaken the Church Ministries is a group of ladies, from various church denominations, who want to win souls for Christ, using people’s desire for prayer, to that end.
Ministry leader Holly Hayes said to me, “Mark, just before we pray with someone we ask them about their relationship with Christ, which is a perfect lerad in to share the gospel.”
5 years ago, these ladies started their ministry at 12 churches in their town, praying on their lawns. After 6 months they started prayer walking and knocking on houses in these 12 comminuties. “Mark,” Holly said, “We’ve got to get out into the hi-ways and by-ways. If we don’t do it, who will?”
They also set up their prayer tent in Covington, every day of the month in September & October, while “Vampire Diaries” tours were going on. Their prayer tent is seen by people from all over the country who come to these tours.
Check out their FB page, HERE.
And, check their website for their schedule, HERE.
Praise the Lord Holly, and ladies!

Celebrate NDP Prayer Tents

Celebrate Habersham NDP

Let me just tell you, that as the Georgia State Coordinator for the National Day of Prayer, this year, I am going to meet some GREAT people.

This week we look at Habersham County and 8 events, over 12 hours, in 7 towns.

let’s celebrate a 2021 NDP event

Habersham County, and Myrna Fouts

Billed as 7 Cities in 12 hours, County Coordinator Myrna Fouts was on the road early, with Betty Gober, her assistant these last few years. Another important team member, Jan Garrison helped supply key speakers and pray-ers, including former Congressman Doug Collins.

Myrna has been doing the National Day of Prayer for over 30 years, some years, by herself alone.

My goal for this article is that you see this little lady’s creativity.

Did I mention that Myrna suffered a ruptured colon in early April? And yet she was able to organize and participate in the entire 12 hours of prayer, from 7am to 7pm.

They spent an hour and a half in each event. Below we will look at each event’s specifics.

Thank you Betty and Jan for your support of Myrna, and Habersham County and the National Day of Prayer.

Here’s What the Day Looked Like:

7:00am to 8:30am – At Home, intercessors prayed over the 7 mountains
8:30am to 10:00am – In Tallulah Falls, where every single person in the education system was prayed for by name
10:00am to 11:30am – In Clarkesville, the county seat, pastors prayed, local choirs sang, and the VFW was there with a 21 gun salute, and taps
11:30am to 1:00pm – In Cornelia, where the train goes right thru the center of town, 10 government officials, from the Mayor to the Sherriff to Council Members to Doug Collins prayed over the government
1:00pm to 2:30pm – In Demorest, a small town with a college, they prayed specifically for education and then a hospital employee shared incredibly moving Covid stories
2:30pm to 4:00pm – In Baldwin, the small town that recently lost their police force, much prayer was lifted up for that specific situation and then an addiction ministry located there was prayed for too
4:00pm to 5:30pm – In Alto, they met at City Hall with several preachers lifting up Arrendale Prison, also located there
5:30pm to 7:00pm – In Mt Airy, the ladies wound up their long day with prayer for churches, families, government, etc. and there was a special emphasis on families with missing children, then the day ended with a 21 gun salute.

I don’t mind telling you how tired I am writing this, Myrna and Betty must have gone home and collapsed!

Thank you Myrna for you leadership.

Myrna shared something interesting about the evolution of her efforts in Habersham County. I hope some of you will take her idea to heart.

A number of years ago Myrna noticed that she had reached a peak with how many people would show up at a church, OTHER THAN ONE’S OWN CHURCH, to celebrate the National Day of Prayer, and that’s when she started thinking outside the box.

Mix it up, Coordinators! Think outside the box.

Celebrate NDP Prayer Tents

Celebrate Zebulon NDP

Let me just tell you, that as the Georgia State Coordinator for the National Day of Prayer, this year, I am going to meet some GREAT people.

And it started today when I decided to begin these articles at THE END of the alphabet.

let’s celebrate a 2021 NDP event

Zebulon, in Pike County, and Ben Maxedon

Ben is the County Coordinator for Pike county. And this is his 21st National Day of Prayer.
Here are the words he penned on his FB page on May 7th:

Yesterday we celebrated the 21st consecutive National Day of Prayer in Pike County. All those who participated in the service were awesome, as were all those who came out to join us and pray.

Pike County may be a small rural community, but we have some of the greatest spiritual servants you will find anywhere.

Thank you, Pike County, for making this a great place to live and raise a family.

I had a great time meeting Ben Maxedon over the phone yesterday.

This is one BUSY man . . . a busy and a humble man.

When you look at his website (www.prayerpower4u.net) you will find great tools which he uses, “To be the predominant spiritual resource in the community,” which is his Ministry Vision, and which it sounds like he is accomplishing.

He started Prayer Power of Georgia in 2007 and says he does 99% of his work in Pike County.

He is a veteran, a chaplain, prays at the County Board of Commisioner’s meetings, the County School Board meetings and for the last few years has hosted the Pike County Baccalaureate, for all schools in the county, public, private, Christian and home-school, so the public school doesn’t have to host a “religious” event.

For the last 10 years he has also recorded 2, 1 minute insperational recordings every day for a radio station. Let me think, twice a day for 10 years (365 x 10 x 2). Not enough fingers, I think it’s well over 7,000, 1 minute insperational recordings.

When I asked him about the ministers in the county he again, very humbly, shared with me that a few years ago he started a ministerial association which meets monthly.

If I didn’t already love the guy by now, the following confession from him solidified it for me. A few years ago he started the Prayer Guardians which not only prays for every elected official from POTUS to the local dog-catcher (he didn’t say it that way, those are my words to make the point he prays for EVERY elected official). But he also sends them prayer cards every single month so they know he’s praying for them.

I love the commitment from this man.

What an exciting and humbling interview.

And did I tell you he is humble? That too came across on our call. The man was not comfortable talking about himself.

We have got some GREAT NDP Coordinators!

Lord, thank You for leaders like Ben, who simply want to serve You by being the Aaron and Hur in men and women’s lives around Pike county.
