This week I spoke and led prayer at the Dodge Baptist Association. We had wonderful seasons of prayer. And strewn throughout the hour and a half we also talked about ongoing prayer events, habits, etc. they could do, both corporately and individually back in their churches.

Various Prayers who traveled from FBA to pray at Connection Church - Most of these men are also in the Cancer Support Group

The Connection Church Feb 2017

Regarding the Cancer Support Group I always tell people to NOT start it if you are not willing to be up late at night talking to folks. But assuming you are willing to talk to folks as much as is needed, START IT! For it will be incredibly rewarding, not just to you, but also to those who participate.

My prayer partner was diagnosed with cancer, a good 9 years ago, and at that time the doctor said he had 1 year to live. My friend called me and I went to his home where we spent 5 hours together, on our knees and in the Word. When I left he said these words, “Bro. Mark, I want to finish spent.”

He has always been an encourager, but from that day on he has been discipling men and reaching out to them in wonderful ways, including now, helping me with about 30 Prayer Conference Calls per week. And, he has remained an incredible encourager!

My friend also has the distinction of being a founding member of a rather robust cancer support group at his church. And from this time he spends with them on Wednesdays has come something that he says, in prayer often, which I had never heard before. It is from poet, educator and Christian, Robert L Lynn.

And I think it bears repeating here:

What Cancer Cannot Do

Cancer is so limited…
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.

Author: Dr. Robert L. Lynn

When my prayer partner shares this poem he often say, “That’s why we focus on Christ, not cancer.”

Start a Cancer Support Group and be blessed, as well as being a blessing to others.

If you haven’t already done so, download the first three FREE short stories of our Itinerant Preacher Alexander Rich, written as memoirs by his wife for their 20th wedding anniversary (

Yes, this is the same woman who in book 1 Alexander Rich is falling in love with, even though he doesn’t realize it yet. And, forgive me, but I do not know when he realizes it. Will it be the second or the third book?

I don’t know, so I just jumped ahead and started writing, I mean, and found her writings.
