GETTING RID OF DISTRACTIONS
(Praising God is the Answer)
This is TOO Simple.
Yes, it seems that way at first. But try it. I think you’ll find you have a tendancy to jump into thanking Him and petitioning Him. ALL OF WHICH He wants you to do, don’t get me wrong! But there is a time and a place for those prayers, and the times of distraction are not the right place. Trust me.
If you haven’t already, watch this 3 minute video, do so before you read the rest of this short post:
Now Ask Yourself this Question:
How much praying time do I lose because of distractions?
I think you’ll find it’s more time than you realized.
So, What’s the Answer?
Tha’ts right, praising God.
You might be yelling at me, “Mark, now I have another distraction, FINDING THE NAMES OF GOD!
Some time in the future I’ll give you a list of the names of God. But for right now let me give you a very simple list to remember, the Fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23a (NIV)
(22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance [patience], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness and self-control.
This is the Fruit of the Spirit which we as Christians are supposed to live out, right?
But it’s the fruit of Whom? The capital “W” gives you the hint. It’s the fruit of who God already is. These are 9 of His attributes.
Here’s today’s simple lesson and BIG tool to pray for politicians WITHOUT distractions undermining your praying.
This is what I do:
“Lord, You are love.
“Lord, You are joy.
“You are peace and patience.
“You are kindness and goodness.
“You are faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
“And these are only 9 of Your attributes! Surely I can say with the Psalmist (Psalm 145:3), ‘Your greatness is unsearchable,’ my Lord.”
Now the evil one is no dummy. You will soon experience another distraction, but deal with it the same way, he will eventually leave you, albeit for a more opportune time (Luke 4:13). But you will be rid of him (again, for a time only).
Distractions will have no more control over you.
And, you will experience the presence of the Lord in a precious way.
REMEMBER, God doesn’t need your advice, and, He doesn’t “need you” to get things done (contrary to some of my colleagues’ teachings). Afterall, God does WHATEVER He pleases (Psalm 135:6).
Blessings,
